Core Private i Functionality

Private i opens to a main desktop, and a module toolbar provides access to the main functional areas of the system. These modules are described in the topics to follow.

In the LP Investments module, an "investment" is a complete record of a stake in a limited partnership or other similarly structured deal. Four underlying ledgers---Funding, Additional Fees, Cash and Stock---allow you to track the full history of cash flows for the investment. A fifth ledger, Valuations, tracks the reported valuation from period to period. The LP Investments module has been carefully designed to present a snapshot of an investment, including its committed capital, unfunded commitment, inception-to-date IRR and more.

Private placement memoranda (PPMs) and other investment opportunities can be tracked in the Offerings module. Offerings allows you to keep a running status of your most important activities, and to record contact, notes and other due-diligence related information. It is an online deal pipeline whose customizable grid makes it easy to slice and dice the deals in progress to more effectively and efficiently manage the decision-making process.

Private equity is a people business. Organization and contact management capabilities are central to the design of Private i. The Organizations module literally organizes all the people and companies associated with your private investment portfolio. For example, when you add a new investment, you'll identify a fund manager and the name of the fund. Behind the scenes, Private i stores these organizations in a central repository, its organization database. If a name of an organization changes, you change it once and its change is reflected everywhere. This organization-centric contact manager is also one of the underpinnings to the fund of funds administration Funds Console.

Another reason this organizations manager is essential is that, unlike more open systems such as Microsoft Outlook, a sophisticated security model can control and protect sensitive information, such as bank account and wiring instructions.

What do partnerships own? As partnerships are formed and begin operations, they invest in a portfolio of companies. The Portfolio Holdings module allows you to track all of the associated activity of the investments your partnerships make in companies. From quarter to quarter, as the partnership reports this activity, you record new investments and any changes in cost, market value and proceeds from these companies. Private i includes cross-holdings and diversification reports. Alternatively, as keeping up with this flow of information is a daunting task, subscribe to our Private Informant data service, and we'll handle it for you.

Underpinning the investments in portfolio holdings is information related to the companies themselves. A portfolio company (or any "entity," such as a real estate holding) can be quickly characterized in the Entities module.

Private i Analyst provides the core reporting engine for the system. Run reports that meet a wide range of requirements, from simple lists, cash flow data to providing performance metrics such as rates of return and investment multiples. Organize information by industry, geography or stage focus. For faster reporting, custom sets of selected investments can be saved. All reports can be output to a variety of popular formats, including PDF, Microsoft Excel, XML and HTML.
